The Design Operations Team at Strava is charged with the smooth running of the Design organization. We handle the work around the work: process, tooling, workflows, contracts, budgets and resourcing, and all of the other overhead that is required for Design to succeed. We are curious and visionary when it comes to our craft. We are looking for a Senior Design Program Manager to elevate the successful execution of Strava’s Design programs. This position will have a broad reach and will require strong communication skills and experience to deftly engage with our partners across the product, brand, and research disciplines.

The ideal candidate thrives on finding clarity in ambiguity, understands how to build positive working frameworks, and has a passion for efficiency. We are looking for a self-motivated, driven candidate who is adaptable, excited to dive in and help solve problems, and excels in a highly collaborative team culture.

In this role, you will collaborate across the design organization and build relationships with our cross-functional partners. You will be responsible for shaping new ways of working and helping teams realize the best outcomes of their work.

This role will be based in our San Francisco or Denver office with a hybrid in-office work requirement of at least 3 days per week. Note this position will require some international travel.

  • Drive operational methodologies to set up projects and teams for success.
  • Develop, evolve, and coach Design and Research team process
  • Build ways of working to drive impact.
  • Promote and develop cross-functional relationships.
  • Lead multiple work streams and programs that span the entire Design org.
  • Define project scope and constraints across product and research projects.
  • Adeptly manage project risk.
  • Facilitate timely and successful execution of project deliverables for initiatives across brand, product and research programs.
  • Build, grow and maintain clear cross-functional alignment and coordination throughout project lifecycles.
  • Be the essential partner that Design and cross-functional leadership need to propel team and company initiatives forward, while championing and guiding effective decision-making.
  • Support the planning, intake, and resourcing to ensure alignment on team priorities.
  • Manage tools, budgets, vendors, and documentation.
  • Support team collaboration rituals

We’re excited about you because you have:

  • 5-7+ years of operational experience in a creative or design setting.
  • Understanding of product and research life cycles with the common roadblocks and challenges teams encounter.
  • Capacity to ask questions, synthesize critical information, put ideas into action, and share findings.
  • Ability to lead multiple initiatives and portfolios of work.
  • Proven ability to define, map, and implement processes in a complex stakeholder environment.
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to lead with empathy and clarity.
  • Experience facilitating diverse stakeholder group input.
  • Ability to connect business objectives to team output and planning.
  • Eagerness for new challenges, a growth-oriented approach,
  • Experience in a digital startup environment is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with PM and operational methodologies and frameworks such as Agile, Six Sigma, and Waterfall is a plus.
  • Formalized project management certification, PMP, IMPA, PRINCE2, and SCRUM are also an advantage but not required.
