Director of UX & Product Design

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Director of Product Design with a passion for creating simple and delightful new product experiences. You’ll lead a talented team and tackle complex product challenges across mobile app, audio and hardware UX. Your depth of expertise in UX, design systems, hands-on execution, and prototyping will help us ship beautiful, intuitive products that our customers fall in love with as they drift off to sleep. This role is both visionary and executional: you’ll define design strategy, help shape the design culture, and partner closely with product, engineering, and research to deliver experiences that make Hatch synonymous with better sleep and better health.

As a Product Design Director, you’ll play an essential role guiding our teams towards more seamless product experiences, keeping our customers at the center of every decision we make. We’re looking for someone with an entrepreneurial mind who can quickly storyboard future visions and design scrappy prototypes to inform new opportunities for our evolving products – all while collaborating cross functionally to bring insight-driven experiences to life.

UX/UI & Product Expertise

• You bring deep experience in mobile product design (iOS + Android) with proven success translating complex ecosystems—whether IoT, content-rich, or service-oriented—into seamless, elegant user experiences.
• You’re equally comfortable imagining “what’s next” and sweating the details that make an experience extraordinary.
• You thrive in ambiguity, using prototypes, experiments, and storytelling to bring clarity and momentum to new opportunities.

Design Systems & Process

• Proven success building and scaling design systems for speed and consistency across teams.
• A strong partner for engineering leaders, focused on high-fidelity implementation and continuous quality improvements.
• Proven experience establishing efficient design workflows, tools, and standards.

Innovation & Emerging Tech

• Experience with AI-driven prototyping, rapid experimentation, and leveraging emerging technologies.
• You are deeply curious and experimental in your adoption of emerging tools and tech and can inspire others to adopt them in their own ways.
• You can translate innovative concepts and experiments into tangible user and business value.

Collaboration & Impact

• You have deep in-house product development experience, ideally paired with consulting/agency work.
• You have exceptional communication skills to influence executives and align cross-functional teams.
• Proven ability to drive measurable impact on product metrics through design leadership.

What You’ll Do

Within 3 Months:

• Build a solid understanding of our designed experiences and current product ecosystem.
• Form strong collaborative relationships across the design team, research function, PMs, and engineering teams.
• Build strong partnerships with product, engineering, research, and brand leaders—ensuring design is a trusted voice at the table for strategic decisions.
• Immerse yourself in the details of the current experience and navigate how the architecture is evolving to meet our future needs. 
• Understand the Hatch Brand, our design language, and our unique tone of voice and expertise.
• Begin to raise the bar for design quality and consistency, auditing current workflows, systems, and experiences to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Work closely with design and research leads to identify key questions to answer through usability tests, qual, and quant; helping the team iterate and build confidence in design directions. 

Within 6 Months:

• See your work come to life as we constantly improve and update our products.
• Lead the team in delivering breakthrough prototypes and research insights that unlock new product opportunities and de-risk bold bets.
• Influence company roadmaps by framing customer insights as strategic opportunities, helping leadership prioritize 
• Become an advocate and resource for more seamless and consistent user experiences across our ongoing product development efforts.
• Operationalize design excellence by evolving our design system and processes—creating the conditions for speed, consistency, and innovation at scale.
• Serve as a facilitator and thought partner across teams, aligning diverse perspectives into a coherent, inspiring product direction.

After 1 Year:

• Drive the design and launch of a new to the world product that helps people develop healthier sleep habits in collaboration with design, product, and engineering teams.
• Champion a culture of design-driven innovation where rapid experimentation, creative exploration, and user empathy are embedded into how Hatch builds.
• Identify new white space opportunities that align with our brand and business goals, shaping a vision for the next generation of sleep experiences.
• Leave your mark by building a design team and culture recognized for craft, impact, and influence—a model for how design shapes company strategy.
• Actively contribute to infusing creativity, play, and learning into our team culture.

What You’ll Bring

• 10+ years of experience in product design, with a strong portfolio that demonstrates both hands-on excellence and the ability to shape strategy and outcomes at scale.
• A track record of launching consumer-facing products across mobile (iOS/Android) and connected ecosystems (hardware, content, services), ideally in health, wellness, or IoT.
• Proven leadership experience: managing, mentoring, and scaling design teams; establishing culture; and raising the bar for quality and innovation.
• The ability to communicate a design vision that inspires teams, influences executives, and drives cross-functional alignment.
• Strategic product sense: fluency in connecting customer insights to business outcomes, balancing visionary thinking with pragmatic decision-making.
• Prototyping and experimentation mindset: comfort with varying levels of fidelity, from quick explorations to polished proofs of concept that inform strategy and accelerate learning.
• Systems thinking: success creating and scaling design systems that increase speed, consistency, and collaboration across teams.
• A passion for design as a driver of health and wellness, and a belief in the role Hatch can play in helping people live healthier, more rested lives.
• Bonus: Experience working at the intersection of software, hardware, and content; knowledge of accessibility best practices; and curiosity about emerging technologies such as AI-powered tools.
